Judy Darragh

Judy DarraghJudy Darragh, born in Christchurch and located in Auckland, is a prolific New Zealand artist renowned for her multi-disciplined and multi-media works.  She gathers found objects, recycled items, industrial materials, and other detritus to create sculptural assemblages, collage, photography, video, and poster art.  Darragh alters form and function of her found objects to construct new meanings and contexts. It is this process of reinvention that is significant, as is the range of ideas that she incorporates, including gender, cultural norms and humour. Darragh is widely exhibited in New Zealand. In 2004 the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa featured a major retrospective of her work curated by Natasha Conland and entitled ‘Judy Darragh: So … you made it?’

A writer, speaker and long-time teacher, Darragh is also involved with www.cuckoo.co.nz, an artistic initiative that organises shows in various galleries or spaces. She is represented by Two Rooms Gallery and Jonathan Smart Gallery and her book Arts Society: Judy Darragh can be purchased from Te Tuhi.
